🔍 Why Rotation Happens

When using the a MicroREC, the beam splitter introduces a 90° rotation between the microscope image and the view displayed on your phone. This means:

  • The image seen through your phone does not match what you see through the microscope binoculars by default.

  • To match the two views, you need to compensate with a 90° rotation using the MicroREC app.

🎥 What Happens When the Phone Is in Landscape

Assume your phone is physically installed in landscape orientation:

If you compensate with a 90° rotation in the app (to match the binocular view), the recorded video will appear in portrait format.

This happens because applying a 90° rotation in the MicroREC app transforms the camera feed, so even if the phone is mounted in landscape, the resulting video is saved in portrait format.

Using the Rotation Button

To adjust the image orientation manually, use the Rotate button in the MicroREC app:

  • Each tap rotates the image 90° clockwise.

  • You can rotate through 90°, 180°, 270°, to return to the original position.

This is useful when aligning the image to match your microscope view or correcting orientation before recording.

✅ Your Options

To ensure the final video is in landscape, here are three options:

  1. Do Not Compensate the Image

    • Leave the phone in landscape.

    • Do not apply the 90° rotation in the MicroREC app.

    • Result: The video is recorded in landscape, but the phone preview does not match the binocular view.

  2. Install the Phone in Portrait and Rotate 90° in the App

    • Mount the phone in portrait orientation.

    • Apply a 90° rotation in the MicroREC app.

    • Result: The phone preview matches the binocular view, and the video is saved in landscape.

  3. Install the Phone in Landscape but Facing Upwards

    • Mount the phone in landscape, but with the screen facing upwards (not sideways, to you).

    • Do not rotate the image in the app.

    • Result: The image naturally aligns with the microscope view, and the video is in landscape without needing rotation.
